Alta guard station to Porter Fork

Elevations, slope angles and aspects:

6200-11'000', angles over 35°, all aspects.

Avalanche activity:

Limited to rollers from day time heating on sun exposed. There was lingering evidence of natural activity from the wind.

Rollers were observed in Butler Fork on west facing into the afternoon.

Glide cracks are opening up in Broads

Slopes skied:

Little Superior northeast facing, Cardiac bowl from the summit of Superior, High Ivory out Cardiff, Mill A entry from Butler and Raymond shoulder

Snow conditions:

Firm, mostly crusted on south facing with, a sparkling of hoar frost. Day time heating dampened sun exposed by late morning-early afternoon. Aspects with a west facing component were scoured from the last few days of wind. North and east facing aspects had spongy wind board or an inch or two of wind packed powder over a consolidated base.

Weather:

Bluebird. Light breeze in the afternoon. Mild temperatures.

Evaluation:

Mostly stable snow. Future instabilities would be from increased wind or heavy snowfall.
